Biology Program (2-year duration)

2023 Year 11/12 Online Biology as a 2-year Course

*Course includes Topic tests, some Assignments, self-marked practice exam and a final Exam.

Commencing February 2023

First Year Biology

Semester 1 (10 + 9 + 1 Weeks)*

Cells (microscopes, organelles, scientific method, enzymes, diffusion/ osmosis, and transport across membranes)
Biochemistry (biological molecules, photosynthesis, and Energy in cells)
Physiology (digestive, circulatory, respiratory, and excretory systems)
Practical Investigations (microscopes and cells, enzyme rates of reaction, diffusion and osmosis, physiology)

Semester 2 (9 + 8 Weeks)*

Infectious Diseases (innate immune system, acquired immune system, cell mediated immunity, immunisation, viruses, bacterial and fungal infections) – 9 weeks.
Ecology (biotic and abiotic factors, tolerance limits, communities, cycles, food webs, species interactions, succession, human impacts) – 6 weeks.

Second Year Biology

Semester 1 (10 + 9 Weeks)*

Cell Division (mitosis, control of mitosis and meiosis)
DNA and RNA (DNA replication, transcription, translation, mutations)
Classical Genetics (Mendelian genetics, test crosses, co-dominance)
Advanced Genetics (X-linked diseases, multiallelic traits, pedigrees, non-disjunction)
Natural Selection (micro-evolution, speciation)
Evolution (Creation versus Evolution/ macro-evolution)

Semester 2 (10+ 8 Weeks)**

Biotechnology (cloning, genetic manipulation, cell culture)
Reproductive technology (IVF, PGD, Stem cells)
Design and Deconstructing an investigation
Separate SHE (Science as a Human Endeavour) task. Students can pick from various topics such as IVF, genetic engineering, organic farming, pollution, medical genetics and diseases etc.

Classes for our programs are only $60 per week, which equates to $2280 per year (38 week programs).
